The Perfect Cane for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Hey EDSers - I have found the perfect cane for those of you that need to use a cane for balance, after surgeries, etc. I have had mine for a few years and I absolutely love it.

The Strongarm cane provides the perfect support while taking the weight off of your wrist and placing it on your forearm instead.

The cane is interchangeable and can be used on the right or left arm. There is nice foam cushioning, so it isn't uncomfortable at all. I highly recommend the Strongarm!

Make sure, if you are using a cane, that you use it properly. I am out everyday and see people not using them correctly, which is bad on the body and doesn't aid in mobility. You can actually cause damage walking with a cane incorrectly. Here's how to properly walk with a cane:

Where to buy this cane:

You can purchase the Strongarm via Amazon through the LifeWithEDS store.

Hey Dani! Thanks for posting this. I'm 32 and have EDS & POTS. Have used a cane for about a year and a half and it does bother my wrist. The link on your site says "currently unavailable". Hopefully the product will be back in stock soon! Thanks for sharing this. :)

MeganAnne - there are a few more in the store (on Amazon) that are available now - a slim one and a regular, but always check back if you don't like those. To view the two available ones, just click on the link to purchase, again. :) Good luck and happy walking! :)

That does look a good idea! A bit like the Smart Crutch which also takes the weight off certain areas.

I doubt I use my stick correctly - no one has ever told me. I only use it briefly to get into my wheelchair, but I'll have a look at the video and see if I can improve!

I am new to reading your blog -- thank you for all of the work you've put into this resource.

I wanted to share the type of walking sticks that I use in case they might be a good option for others with EDS:

I changed to these a couple years ago and my quality of life increased SO MUCH.

This is a photo of me using them: http://mythpunkart.com/preview/Me.jpg

I purchased this cane and the weight of it makes it impossible to use :(

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that. It works perfectly for me. Is there any way you can return it? Usually you have a certain amount of time on Amazon to return things. Best of luck. Really, I am so sorry. Again, though, I love mine. :/

Hey, very nice site. I came across this on Google, and I am stoked that I did. I will definitely be coming back here more often. Wish I could add to the conversation and bring a bit more to the table, but am just taking in as much info as I can at the moment. Thanks for sharing.
